FRONT GATE MANAGER
Summary:
Location: Remote/Electric Love Music Festival - Pritchard, British Columbia
Position Type: Temporary (Seasonal) with some year round commitment.
Time Commitment: Be available for monthly meetings during the off-season, weekly meetings between June and the festival showtime. August 3rd-10th, shifts are 0900-1800 & 1700-0200 (Subject to change)
Reports To: Operations Manager
Compensation: Honorarium based on related experience & education.
Job Summary:
The Front Gate Manager is responsible for overseeing the front gate operations at Electric Love Music Festival. This position ensures smooth and efficient entry and exit for festival attendees while enforcing all safety, security, and operational protocols. The Front Gate Manager will lead and manage a team of gate staff, coordinate with security and other Managers throughout the festival, and ensure that all guests are processed in a timely, welcoming, and secure manner.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Pre-Festival Duties:
Ensure the Operations Manager has the correct orders in for supplies for your department. Example: Whites LES, radios, stationary, technologies etc.
Attend regular meetings leading up to the festival.
Become familiar with Showpass apps, Squares and other technology required.
Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator regarding volunteer assignments for pre-festival, showtime & post-festival.
Collaborate with all departments regarding and obtaining all Guest Lists, Artist & Guest lists, including contracted workers (Stage managers, Sound technicians etc.) at least 2 weeks prior to show time. Lists are to be sent to person(s) in charge of reviewing lists, and allocating credentials on ShowPass.
Familiarize yourself with Policies & Procedures Manual, and Employee Code of Conduct/Safer Spaces Policy.
Front Gate Operations:
Oversee the process for General Admission, Performers, and Vendor entry and manage special access lanes.
Supervise and manage all aspects of the festival’s front gate, including ticket scanning, credential verification, security checks, and access control.
Ensure Efficient flow of attendees into the festival site, preventing delays while maintaining a high level of guest experience.
Collaborating and maintaining effective communications with all Managers on site. Specifically Co-Gate Manager, Parking Coordinator, Operations, Artist Relations and Production Gate Manager.
Staff Management and Training:
Supervise gate staff, volunteers, and security personnel at the front entrance.
Ensure that all team members are fully briefed on their responsibilities, including how to check tickets, issue wristbands, and enforce policies.
Lead daily pre-shift briefings and ensure that all staff are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to do their jobs efficiently.
Provide continuous coaching, support, and feedback to ensure staff adherence to festival standards of customer service and safety.
Ticketing and Credentialing:
Coordinate with the ticketing team to ensure all ticket types (general admission, VIP, staff, etc.) are properly processed and checked at the front gate.
Maintain accurate records of ticket scanning, credential distribution, and access control for each attendee.
Address issues with lost tickets, incorrect wristbands, or credential disputes in a calm and professional manner.
Initiate a cash float every shift, including monitoring cash sales, balancing floats & giving detailed cash slips to Operations.
Safety and Security Oversight:
Ensure all safety protocols are followed at the front gate, including bag & vehicle checks and compliance with security measures.
Work closely with security personnel to prevent unauthorized entry, and resolve any incidents or disturbances.
Customer Service and Communication:
Provide excellent customer service to festival-goers, answering questions, assisting with ticketing issues, and directing attendees to the appropriate areas.
Handle complaints or concerns from attendees in a professional and calm manner, ensuring positive guest experiences.
Act as the main point of contact for any escalated issues or incidents at the front gate.
Event Logistics and Coordination:
Collaborate with other departments, including security, production, and operations to ensure that the front gate is aligned with overall event logistics.
Communicate with the Operations Manager to report any issues or delays, ensuring that corrective actions are taken swiftly.
Ensure the front gate area is clean, organized, and properly stocked with necessary materials (e.g., tickets, wristbands, radios, etc.)
Ensure Production Gate & Artist Check-in have appropriate amount of credentials for check-in.
Post-Festival Duties:
Lead the teardown and closure of the front gate at the end of each day AND at the conclusion of the festival.
Ensure that all gate equipment is returned to the appropriate storage and that inventory is tracked accurately.
Prepare post-event reports, documenting any issues, staff performance, and recommendations for improvements.
Attend a mandatory debriefing with Operations Manager’s.
Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience in event management, customer service, security, or a supervisory role in a large-scale event or festival setting is preferred.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing a team of staff or volunteers.
Customer Service: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage guest interactions and resolve conflicts effectively.
Problem-Solving: Ability to think quickly and make decisions under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods, walk long distances, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Detail-Oriented: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain a high level of organization.
Knowledge of Safety Protocols: Familiarity with basic safety, security procedures, and crowd control methods.
Availability: Flexibility to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and during the festival duration.
Preferred Skills:
First Aid/CPR Certification: Basic first aid or CPR certification is a plus, but not required.
Ticketing Systems Experience. Ex. Showpass: Familiarity with electronic ticketing platforms and access control systems.
Experience using tools such as: Google Sheets.
Working Conditions:
The Front Gate Manager will be required to work in an outdoor festival environment, often standing or walking for long periods, with variable weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.).
Shifts may be long, with a combination of day and night work, especially leading up to and during the festival.
Must be available to work during the full duration of the festival, including setup and breakdown days.
